Watabaran is a fair trade company in Nepal that produces Christmas cards and paper products through recycled paper for companies around the world. Until 2004 Watabaran sold their products on the basis of personal contacts. Though the company had a website, it served only as a reference to the real business and didn’t generate much income through the Internet.
But on 2005, they decided to update and promote their site in the search engines. The revamping of the site started from its content. Furthermore, the design was changed in such a manner that it could be easily indexed by Google and was attractive to people as well.
The next step was making a thorough analysis of their market, competitors, customer behavior and expectations. On the basis of this research, a keyword analysis was made and the right keywords were selected. The result is a well-optimized site that ranks on the very first page of Google, Yahoo and MSN within a few months.
The site ranks on the very top for keywords like fair trade Christmas cards and Handmade Christmas cards. This change in rankings resulted in contacts with several stores and wholesalers in USA, Australia and UK that increased the sales by more than 30% in 2006!
